Als Anhänger der Bewegungspartei in Opposition zu «Liestal» stehend. Landrat 1854-57 und 1860-63. Bekämpft an der Seite von Christoph Rolle - als Mitglied des entsprechenden Vetokomitees - 1856 das Projekt der Centralbahn-Gesellschaft für eine Zweigbahn nach Waldenburg. Mitgründer des patriotischen Vereins Helvetia in Sissach 1859. Revi. Bezirksrichter in Sissach 1859-63 und 1877-84. Oberrichter 1869-72 und 1884-96. Schulpfleger 1869-73. Bezirksrat 1881-85. Zivilstandsbeamter 1877-97.
