Beginnt seine berufliche Laufbahn als Jurist der Centralbahn-Gesellschaft; wird bei dieser 1874 Chef des Expropriationsbüros. Direktor der basellandschaftlichen Strafanstalt 1876-94. Eröffnet in Liestal 1884 Advokaturbüro. Präsident des Bezirksgerichts Liestal 1884-90. Freisinniger Landrat 1887-1905; Präsident 1889/90, 1893/94, 1896/97, 1901/02. Gibt als Landratspräsident den Stichentscheid für Verfasssungsrevision von 1892. Präsident des Verfassungsrats 1892 und des Abstimmungskomitees für die Annahme der neuen Verfassung. Direktionsmitglied der BL Kantonalbank und Präsident der Waldenburgerbahn.
