Sohn des Josef Albert und der Josephine Fringeli. Heirat 1935 Rosa Häner von Bärschwil und Nunningen. Primarschule in Bärschwil, Sekundarschule in Laufen. Lehrerseminar Solothurn, wo unter anderen Josef Reinhart und Fritz Wartenweiler seine Lehrer sind. Lehrer an der Gesamtschule Grindel 1919. Daneben Besuch von Vorlesungen in Germanistik, Geschichte und Volkskunde an der Universität Basel. Studien an der Universität Basel und an der Pariser Sorbonne 1922-25. Bezirkslehrerpatent 1925. Bezirkslehrer in Nunningen 1927-69. Weiterbildungsaufenthalte in Deutschland und Dänemark. 1922 entwirft er mit Josef Jeger, Drucker und Verleger, den Jahreskalender Dr Schwarzbueb, welcher ab 1923 erscheint. Seine Veröffentlichungen und Radioauftritte ab 1933 machen ihn in der ganzen Region bekannt. Mitglied des Volkskundlichen Kränzchens der Universität Basel.
